Arachnid 4.0

Arachnid 4.0 is a modular four-legged stand inspired by the biomechanics of arachnids. Designed to hold smartphones and headphones, its articulated structure features a central column and crab-like claws that grip the device securely. The phone can be positioned either vertically or horizontally.

Perfect for everyday use, this model blends aesthetics and functionality. When the phone is placed vertically, a slot beneath the column allows the charging cable to pass through. In horizontal mode, the cable can also be connected without obstruction.

For true wireless in-ear headphones, the design includes two front holes and two rear ones. Circumaural headphones can be placed directly over the claws.

The model was printed using a Creality Ender-3 V3 SE with PLA filament. Colors are fully customizable, allowing users to adapt the design to their environment or personal style.

System Components

• Body: Main structure where the smartphone is placed (vertical or horizontal). It connects to the B-type legs and the tail.

• Tail: Assembles to the body and holds the pair of claws, secured with a top screw.

• Claws: Vertical grip system for the phone. A rubber band is used for tension (see attached images).

• Screws: One secures the claws to the tail; another is placed underneath the body to hold rubber bands connecting to the B-type legs.

• Leg A: Connects to the B-type legs and makes contact with the ground or surface.

• Leg B: Attaches to the body and connects to the A-type legs.

• Washer: Placed between the claws and the screw on the tail if there’s excess spacing.

• Material & Customization: Entire system printed in PLA. Colors are fully customizable by the user.

Printing Notes

• No supports are required for any part. The slicer may suggest supports for the threaded slot beneath the body, but they were not needed in my case.

• When printing the eyes that attach to the body, light sanding was necessary to remove burrs. After sanding, both pieces fit perfectly.

• It is recommended to check the edges of all parts. If they feel sharp or uneven to the touch, use sandpaper to smooth them out for a safe and clean finish.
