Introducing a new backlight model for your desktop, monitor, and keyboard.

This is a simple and accessible project that does not require advanced electronics knowledge or a large number of components.

Model dimension: 540x14.5mm (W=31.5 with box) H~13 mm

The main body consists of three parts that can be easily assembled using glue.

Before gluing, it’s recommended to align the parts in advance by resting them against a long flat object, such as a ruler, to ensure a straight and clean assembly.

The internal components are completely up to you. In my build, I used:

- several sections of 5V LED strip,

- an LED strip driver,

- a USB connector for power.

Instead of glass, I used pieces of acrylic plastic, but you can also use a 3D-printed screen panel — the files are included in the project.

Important:

The screen panel should be printed in 1–3 layers only. After that, stop the print manually or set a pause at the desired layer in advance.

The number of layers directly affects transparency, so feel free to experiment.

Best results are achieved with white or bright-colored filament.

If you use acrylic (as I did), it’s recommended to sand the surface to create a matte finish — this helps diffuse the light and makes individual LEDs less visible.

Feel free to get creative:

try different types of LED strips (including silicone-coated ones), various diffusers, tinted films, or even clear lacquer.
