A hexagonal shelving system designed in a way that you don’t have to have any connection points visible on the outside of your shelf. I started out by making a hexagon that connected on all six sides, started that print and thought we can do better than that! So I made every combination of connectable sides so you can have clean and proportional walls to the shelf. The keys lock the shelves together and the key mounts give you a way to attach them to the wall. With some planning on how you want your shelf to look you can pick out the best prints for your vision.

Notes:

Dimensions: Bed fit is 185mm x 214mm. Top to bottom inside the hexagon is 165mm (6 1/2”) each inside face is 95mm squared. (you could print it bigger but smaller might compromise attach points)

Plan Ahead: I started out by trying to hand draw the shelf design I wanted and after many failed attempts of drawing hexagons I downloaded a drawing app that had stamps of shapes and then I just stamped hexagons together until I came up with what I wanted. That made it really easy to tell what sides needed to be connected. As I print them out I just check them off my drawing.

Key: The keys are slightly undersized because I was having trouble with the fit due to printer inaccuracies. Finally worked out a size that fits nicely and still holds each shelf together with no gaps.

Outside face pieces: Can cover a connecting edge. Added (last minute) the “outside face” pieces incase either some planning didn’t work out or you wanted to change up your shelf design one day but didn’t want to waste time/filament. All four options for that are here just use some careful planning so you can get the fit you want.
