Problem: The IGaging Planer Digital Readout ( http://www.igaging.com/ip54-ez-planer-precision-dro.html ) Mount for the Dewalt dw735 family of wood thickness planers normally mounts to the planer thickness bar by the use of double-sided sticky tape which eventually fails, especially if you have to move your machine regularly.

Solution: This mount that I designed from scratch is secured by 6 cap screws, 3 at the top, 3 at the bottom and permanently mounts the digital readout to the planer thickness readout bar without any drilling modifications to the planer (read, no warranty voiding here). The solution also includes a built in cable guide so the cable will stay out of the way better than it before.

Installation is simple and should not require any drilling:

1) Assemble the IGaging mount per the instructions from IGaging, except you won't need the rectangular spacer and double-sided tape they use to adhere it to the planer thickness guide.

2) Print the STL's and then, starting with the Top mount slide the Side with the Hex holes (holes facing out to the left) on to the Dewalt Thickness Guide, then add the fully assembled IGaging mount. It should fit within the void areas of the print. The screws in the IGaging mount should show in the corresponding void (1/2 cut out hole) on the print.

3) Add the second side to the top of the mount

4) Insert a single Hex nut into one of the holes on the left side.

5) Insert a single Cap screw into the corresponding hole on the right side and secure it slightly, just enough so it won't fall apart until assembly is done.

6) Repeat these steps 3 - 5 for the Bottom mount.

7) Add the remaining nuts and cap screws and then tighten fully.

8) Reposition and tighten the stub that connects the planer to the IGaging Digital Readout bracket so that it engages without putting strain on the movement of the IGaging Digital Readout.

An optional step before step 2 is to remove the Dewalt Height Guide completely and assembly the whole thing forming a single unit. This just means you have to reattach it back to the planer as a single whole piece prior to step 8.

Supports:

Because there are several overhangs regardless of rotation of the object, I recommend rotating the object for your printer so that there are minimal supports needed (i.e. just the overhangs for the screw and nut holes). You can see an example of how I positioned the objects for my prints in the images. I recommend printing with minimal supports (rotate the objects so that only minimal supports are necessary). I printed mine with the flattest surface on the print bed so that most holes and void areas could be printed vertically with minimal supports.

You will need to assemble the final prints (4 of them) around the Dewalt Planer Height Guide and IGaging Readout mount as shown in the picture. Use the following screws and nuts to complete assembly:
