My first real attempt at modelling my own lamp using Onshape. Design is not perfect (some work in progress). The plan was to print it in Protopasta copper and then have it patina, but then I realized how expensive a roll is… … So opted for plain PLA instead and then just painted with hammer tone spray paint. What you will need:

3d printer (obviously)

Some soldering tools and soldering skills (not available at hardware)

USB C 4056 5v 1a module

On-Off Toggle switch - I used what I had available - Toggle switch

12 no. M3x10mm self tapping counter sunk screws - I used black, but imagine brass would look nice. Shorter screws will also work fine

2 no. m2 self tapping to hold the USB C module down

5v LED light strip of your choice - I used Warm white LED with adhesive backing

If you want to paint - Rust-Oleum Spray Paint Hammered Finish

16 Awg wire for soldering USB to toggler switch and LED

I used some plugs on the electronics but these are not needed, unless you will regularly change the LED. After electronics are done, the final assembly is easy with the long printed bolt holding the top and bottom lantern together - CAUTION: Depending on how good your layer adhesion is, do not overtighten the bolt, it might break. You will then use the M3 screws to screw the top and bottom covers on.

Print settings:

PLA (generic)

0.4mm nozzle @0.20mm layer

220c nozzle

50c Bed

I provided a blank for the lantern/lamp shade that be printed, but the idea for this is to have a cylinder lithophane. I used https://itslitho.com/ - takes some time to figure out how it works, but outer diameter should not exceed 76mm.

Lastly, the handle is a work in progress, but two halves need to be glued together(just easier to print), then just stretch it over the top cover holes. Its a loose fit but works great - or for some authenticity your could use a cotton rope of some sorts as well.

I had fun (most of the time) designing and iterating this and know its not perfect in many instances, but hope someone can find some use for it. Wife and daughter loves it, it is now a night light for my 6 year old.
